CONTEXT:

The idea of the Baghdad Marathon was born among Italian athletes, peace operators and Iraqi citizens willing to build a Peaceful and nonviolent Iraq through sport activities. The idea is not only to contest a marathon race in Baghdad, but to enforce the sport sector that is an important part of civil society. Sport activities are able to develop and spread civil values and a message of Peace and Nonviolence, especially among young generation of Iraqi citizens.

Doha, Qatar, (IUCN) – It’s time for joint action and for regulatory bodies to work together to ensure the continued survival of species threatened by wildlife trade, says IUCN at the end of the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP15) to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), in Doha, Qatar.

 

“CITES CoP15 has highlighted the challenges facing this convention as one of the many existing agreements for managing commercially important species sustainably,” says Sue Mainka, Head of IUCN’s delegation to CITES.
