Green Elementary School Takes Shape in Ras Beirut PDF  | Print |  E-mail

BEIRUT: At first glance, the sandy exterior of the International College’s new elementary school in Hamra embodies notions of simplicity and sophistication typically associated with modern architecture.

However, the choice of using limestone for the facade, a material that is both sustainable and enduring, not only took aesthetic considerations to heart, but environmental ones too. The new school is the country’s first Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design-certified building and has been awarded Gold status, just below the highest category of Platinum.

Launch of the “Progress and Achievements of Climate Change” projects at the Ministry of Environment PDF  | Print |  E-mail

SPNL recently participated in a conference on climate change that was held on March 11, 2013 at the Phoenicia Intercontinental Hotel, Beirut.

The Ministry of Environment in partnership with the United National Development Programme launched a new series of climate change projects as part of the “Achievements and progress of climate change projects at the Ministry of Environment” event at the Phoenicia Intercontinental Hotel.

The projects launching was graced by H.E. Mr. Nazem EL Khoury, Minister of Environment and H.E. Mr. Robert Watkins, UNDP Resident Representative in the presence of, ambassadors, high ranking government representatives,, and representatives of international organizations and NGOs.

Upon the request of the Minister of Health, the UNDP TOKTEN project is launching the National Cancer Treatment Guidelines (second edition) on March 21st 2013 based on the latest scientific updates. The first edition of the National Cancer Treatment Guidelines in 2010 had a very positive outcome that resulted in the provision of international standards of care for cancer patients subsidized by the Ministry of Health.
