DUBAI, (Reuters) - Rescue workers in Iran on Tuesday recovered more bodies three days after two powerful earthquakes struck the northwest of the country, killing more than 300 people, but officials played down reports that casualty numbers may still sharply rise.
The quakes, with magnitudes of 6.4 and 6.3, struck East Azerbaijan province on Saturday afternoon, flattening villages and injuring thousands of people around the towns of Ahar, Varzaghan, and Harees, near the provincial capital Tabriz.

FAO Food Price Index up 6 percent |

The FAO Food Price Index climbed 6 percent in July 2012 after three months of decline.
The Index, which measures the monthly change in the international prices of a basket of food commodities, averaged 213 points, up 12 points from June. That was still well below the peak of 238 points reached in February 2011, however.
The Index's sharp rebound was mostly driven by a surge in grain and sugar prices. International prices of meat and dairy products were little changed.

Following the adoption of the Council of Ministers on 31 August 2010 for the use of incineration as a way to get rid of waste, a number of environmental associations met to discuss this serious issue and agree on ways to solve this emerging problem. These associations were soon joined by other associations of the civil society and many academics in the field to announce the establishment of the "Lebanese Zero Waste Coalition" which aims at urging the government to develop an environmentally sustainable national policy for the management of the solid waste in Lebanon.

Portuguese-speaking countries have found the right approach to tackling the hunger problem - by a combined effort of governments, civil society and the private sector, FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva told the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) today.
